A Trip to Berlin – And The First Long Day of Shooting Photos (Nummer Ein)

I took a trip to Berlin in August of 2017 where I had my first real full day of shooting photos. I took nearly 600 photos that day not really going back and looking through what I shot but instead just going with the flow and taking photos I thought looked interesting. I hit the touristy things first and then just started to wonder around the city. Here’s part 1 of what I found after that wandering.

A bike locked up on the canal running next to the Berlin Cathedral (Wiki).

While walking along that same path I came to this pedestrian tunnel. The lighting was too cool to pass up so I played around quite a bit here.

Apparently the keys locked together is a big thing which I didn’t know. These are actually referred to as “love locks” (Wiki) and can be found in a lot of locations all over the world. What I liked about these were that they were off the beaten path, almost under a bridge that wasn’t anywhere near a tourist location. In my mind, they had put these there for them – not anyone else.

This is the closest thing that you’ll find that is a photo of me. The symmetry of the whole thing was pretty cool. I found this looking into the window of a bank on a side street.

When I turned back to head closer back to the center of town, I notice an older woman pushing a cart to the market near a more touristy area. I feel like we’ve all been here at some point. That’s the Berlin Cathedral in the background.

This shot was interesting to me because I happen to notice it while walking by. If you look closely, you’ll find that part of the wording on the left is actually being reflected. Only when I converted the photo to black and white did it really come alive.
